Situated only 15 km away from the capital of Andhra Pradesh, the deer national park covers an area of over 3500 acres. It has the unique distinction of being the largest green area in Hyderabad. The park is also famous for sheltering the national animal of Andhra Pradesh- the blackbuck deer.

The Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is best known for its population of deer. Named after the Jain prophet Mahavir, the park is a perfect example of the implementation of the teachings of Mahavir. It is estimated that the park has a total of 400 deer living inside the reserved area. The flagship species of the national park is the blackbuck. Some of the other animals that you are likely to come across during your trip here are Panther, Cheetal, Wild Boar, Civet, Porcupine, Panther, and, Wild Boar. The park is also known for the rich collection reptilian life form. There are over 30 varieties of reptile within the sanctuary. If you are an enthusiastic bird-watcher, the park has special treasures in wait for you. There are over 120 different species of birds that can be found in Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. Some of the commonly seen birds are Doves, Cormorants, Eagle, Peacocks, Kingfishers, Partridges, Kites, Indian Pond Herons, Egrets, Quails, and Vultures. It is one of the few places in India where vultures have been rediscovered after it was declared extinct. The park also plays host to a vast number of migratory birds which come here during the winter. In all, there are 80 different kinds of migratory birds that can be found here during winter. The best way of enjoying the site is by opting for the forest department provided safaris which run from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Getting Around

Being close to the city of Hyderabad, it will not be very difficult to travel around during your trip to Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. Once in the forest, there are cars that can take you for a trip. You can also enter with your own hired car. The public transport system is also quite good. Buses leave at frequent intervals. There are a variety of buses that you can find in the area, like ac bus, super deluxe, and non-ac ones. Buses are both state run and privately owned.

There are a number of places for you to explore once you have experienced the charm of Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. The most famous destination is the Charminar. This 16th century architecture draws tourists from all over the world. Chow Mahalla Palace is another place of historical interest. It was the residence of the Asaf Jah dynasty of Hyderabad.
