The word Ayurveda is derived from two words. The two words are Ayur Veda. The term Ayurveda is derived from the combination of the words Ayur and Veda. The meaning is “life or life principle” and “science or knowledge respectively”. Therefore wen combined the word means “science of life or Knowledge of living”. This is a scientific yet natural treatment to rejuvenate the body and soul. There are various methods of treating various sorts of diseases through Ayurveda. The growing world is accepting the norms because the Ayurveda medicine shows no side effects. Therefore the treatment is growing as a modern trend to make the hyper sensitive body and mind take a few minutes rest and then rejuvenate to be a new being all over again. This therapy is believed to be the most important in the modern day world. There is lot of uncertainty wit thehistory of tis medical science. Yet after many debates it was decided thatthetherapy was developed about a thousands of year ago in India. This was believed to be theHindudealt science. Tis was revealed by the cosmic spirit of theBrahmans. Tis may not be supported by medical science of the modern day world. Yet tis as found its popularity withthehelp of the rhythmic action of themassages and an aromatic environment. These are process that were used in ancient world and was believed to have been important in curing diseases related to breathing problem, insomnia, skin disorders or sometimes even the gynaecological or gastric related problems are solved. Mixtures of herbal oils, butter milk, milk or Luke warm water is basically used for the treatment. Sometimes there are uses of wooden tables and powders too. Thesegreatly relaxes the sensitive body, mind and soul.

Types Of Therapy

There are various types of therapies that are included in the regime of the Ayurveda treatment. The therapy that are used are mainly for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia paralysis agitans, sexual weakness and nervous disorder. The treatments include natural oil, wood and aromatic environment. The basic need of the treatment is serenity and peace of mind. There are variety of treatments that are involved in the process curing disease. The treatment can be named as follow: 

 

  • Pizhichil: This sort of treatment includes application of lukewarm herbal oils all over the body by three to four therapists. The treatment lasts for 60 mins- 90 mins for 7 to 21 days. The treatment as to be done on a table made of single piece of Strycnos Nuxvomica Wood. This is special treatment for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia paralysis agitans, sexual weakness and nervous disorder.

 

  • Njavarakizhi: In this process the whole or part of body is made to perspire through application of boluses filled with medicinal herbs. Two the rapist are required for the treatment which is done over a period of 14 days for 60 to 90 minutes. This is used for rheumatism, painful joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and certain types of skin diseases.

 

  • Sirodhara: the word Siro mean head and Dhara means continuous flow of liquid. In this process medicated milk, medicated butter milk and herbal oils are flowed over the fore-head in a special way for a period of 7 to 21 days. The time required is approximately 40 minutes. Insomnia, loss of memory, mental tension and certain skin diseases are treated well with this.

 

  • Vasthi: This is a special treatment offered to the patients of arthritis, hemiplegia, numbness, rheumatism etc. are treated by passinghot oils over the rectum for a period 0f 5 -25 days.

 

  • SiroVasthi: in this process lukewarm oils are poured over a cap in the ear for 15- 60 minutes per day till the patient’s condition improves. Tis is effective in treating facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, headache and various other diseases of head.
  • Udvarthanam and Abhyangam are effective treatment for obesity as well as skin diseases.
