Ziro is the small busy hamlet of the Indian state Arunachal Pradesh situatedat a distance of 150km from state capital Itanagar. This is listed as a World Heritage Site because of its ancient value in history. UNESCO has named it under a tentative list of World Heritage Site also. This is one of the oldest town of the state dominated by Apatani tribe. This is one of the famous bio-diversity site which is under observation because of its rich flora and fauna.

The climate condition of the district varies from place to place as well as season to season. The climate is largely influenced by the nature of terrain depending upon atttitude and location of place.

Ziro introduces you to Subansiri District which occupies the centre of Arunachal. This is a place of hills and forests and breezes, home to the Apa Tani people. Apa Tanis grow rice and rear small fish; uniquely, both are grown in the same patches of land. They can be recognised by tattoos and the women's nose plugs.

How to Reach

  • There are no airports directly connecting this town. The nearby airport is at Tezpur which is 160km away and is in neighbouring state Assam. There are flights of Indian airlines connecting this airport with other major metro cities of India. There are irregular fights available. Regular flights are available at Guwahati only.
  • There are no rail station at Ziro. North Lakhimpur has a railway station which is connecting this place with New Bongaigaon of Assam. Guwahati has a major rail head which is 427km away.
  • There are regular public bus services available from Tawang and Tezpur. Tourists can take ASTC buses from Itanagar also. There are rental cars from all over the north-east region available also. Tawang to Ziro distance is 634 km approx. By car one may need 12 hours to reach there.
