Kashmir is known as the crown jewel of Indian tourism because of its platter full of natural beauty. This land is compared as heaven on the earth which is drawing a large chunk of domestic and international tourists for years. There are several small hill stations of this state popular in all type of tourists. One of them are Pahalgam which is ying within 45km distance from district Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir. This hilly hamlet is sitting atop an elevation of 7200 feet on the banks of Lidder River. Pahalgam is a tourist town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Chandanwari is near to Pahalgam. This is the starting point of famous Amarnath shrine yatra for which the path opens for a selected time only. The hilly town is covered by coniferous type of forests which has some of the rich vegetation in the area. some of the species found in this region are hangul, musk deer, serow, brown bear, Leopard, rhesus macaque, grey langur, Himalayan mouse hare, etc. Some of the migratory birds along with domestic bird species are found here also. They are griffon vulture, monal, snow cock, koklas, blue rock pigeon, Kashmir roller, European hoopoe, jungle crow etc.

The official language of Jammu and Kashmir is Urdu. However, Kashmiri is the local language of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiri, which is an Indo-Aryan language is also known as Koshur.

Things to do

The scenic beauty of the valley along with the tall snow kissed mountains are the greatest attractions of this region. Adventure lovers can take a rafting experience on the Lidder River with the help of a guide.

Several paths criss-crossing this high valley with several trekking routes. Angling and fishing community can concentrate on the Mahseer catching fantasy with the hope of getting one for sure. Camping and picnic on a sunny day can bring a lot of enjoyment during the stay also.

A visit to Aru village and Betab Valley which are named after two of the Bollywood movies canned here, can bring further joy to everyone.

There is a Golf course at this hill station which is available during the spring and summer time for the play.

The main market in Pahalgham has a myraid of shop selling at affordable prices. How to Reach

  • Nearest airport to Pahalgam is at Srinagar which is 49km away only. Major domestic airlines are connecting this capital city with other major metro cities of India on daily basis.
  • There are two major railheads namely Udhampur and Ram Nagar which are 122km and 131km away respectively.
  • The roads around the Kashmir valley are well-connected with all parts of the state. A road from Srinagar via Khanabal and Bijbehera village is connecting this hill station. Another road from Jammu via Khanabal and Anantnag is connecting this area also. All type of rental cars are available to bring the tourists. There are public buses available on regular basis.

Other attractions of Jammu and Kashmir like Kashmir, Sonamarg, Ladakh, nubra Valley, Gulmarg, Dal Lake, Sheshnag Lake, Leh can be visited from this hill station.
