Travel Tips

  • Get proper vaccination done before going for a camping trip. This is because when you are out in the adventure zone, you might be attacked by unwanted diseases but if the vaccinations are done well, you will be out of danger. Some common vaccines are tetanus, Hepatitis, pertussis, meningitis and so on.
  • Take healthy and fresh foods along with you in air tight boxes. Do not east spicy food because you may get digestive problems.
  • Always stay in a group while you are on a camp and trek. Especially in case of kids, you should never leave them alone in the camping site.
  • Stay away from wild animals. This is because the wild animals may carry harmful diseases. Thus getting much close to them can be adverse for your health.
  • Protect yourself from insects by using insect repellents. Use both the spraying type of repellants and the cream type that is to be applied on your body.
  • Carry enough of clothing materials and blankets so that you can stay away from getting fevers.
  • It happens very often that people get water borne diseases while being in a camp. Thus you must carry mineral water with you in adequate quantities to stay safe.

Uttarakhand is not only an adventure zone for the river rafters but it is also an excellent camping spot. There are beautiful green meadows where the adventure lovers can enjoy the solitude of the unknown nature. Chopta is the place where the camping adventure takes place in Uttarakhand. The summer season is the best time for the camp. A trekking of 4-5 days is involved in the camping programme. It is an ideal place for the people who love to face the dangers of nature. While being at this trek you can literally relish the isolation and the beauty of untouched nature. The camping is done in groups and not for a single individual. Once you are in Chopta for the camp, you can explore many trekking routes such as Tungnath, Chandrashila and Deorital Trek. If you are crazy about facing dangers, then the Nandi Kund Trek which is a very high altitude glacial lake area will be ideal for you.

How to Reach

  • The Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Chopta. There are frequent flights from all major cities to this airport. After landing here, you can hire a cab to Chopta which lies around 226 km away.
  • Rishikesh is the nearest railway station to Chopta which is at a distance of 200 kms from it. After getting down at the Rishikesh station you can cover the remaining distance via roadways with the help of luxury buses or cabs.
  • There are well knit bus services to Chopta from any part of Uttarakhand. You can avail luxury buses to comfortable Volvo buses. The most prominent places from where excellent bus services are available to Chopta are Uttarkashi, Rishikesh, Gaurikund, Rudraprayag and Pauri.

 
Surrounding Attractions
  • Ukhimath: Ukhimat is the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath and is located in Rudraprayag. Due to heavy snowfall in Kedarnath during winters, the worshipping is done here at that time.
  • Chandrashila: This is the top most summit of the mountain in Chopta where the Tunganath Mandir is situated. It provides an excellent panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountains like Nandadevi, Kedar, Trishul and Chaukhamba.
  • Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary: This 5 sq. km vast wildlife sanctuary on the Chopta Gopeshwar road is a major tourist attraction. It has extensive breeding of Musk deer and also has great resource of uncommon Himalayan wild animals.
  • Deoria Tal: This is a beautiful lake located at a height of 2400 m above sea level. The reflections of the Chaukhamba peak can are seen in the water of this lake. It’s a magnificent view to watch out.
  • Tunganath Mandir: This wonderful Temple of Lord Shiva is located at a height of 3680 m above the sea level. As per Mythological beliefs, Ravana, in order to please Lord Shive had performed penance at this site.
