Sleeping bag: Sleeping bag is something that you should never forget to carry. Along with protecting you from wintry breeze, it will also safeguard you from various kinds of aphids and insects while sleeping inside the tent.

Expansive sleeping pad: While trekking, thermoses padding is a great requirement as the surface of the ground remains very cold and hard and such pad provides enough warmth and succor to the body.

Boots: For a comfortable trek you must have good boots, otherwise your whole endeavor will land up to utter failure. Quality boots of knee length are the prime necessities to make you attain your goal.

Fleece jacket: Apart from shielding the chilly wind, it will also help you to light down the weight of your carrying bag as these jackets don’t seem to be much heavy.

  • Some essential things like fleece jackets, socks, sleeping bags, trekking pants, camp shoes or sneakers, warm hat, light gloves, torch, synthetic camp booties, folding tents etc. must be carried.
  • While trekking you should also carry enough stock of nutrient bars, electrolytes, chocolates, dried fruits etc. With providing enough energy, they will meet your hunger too.
  • Some obligatory medicines like paracetamols, anti vomiting and digestive tablets, band-aids, lip balms, moisturizer, healing cream etc. must be taken as basic first-aid equipments.
  • People with heart diseases must not opt for trekking, anyhow.

Har Ki Dun trek-

Located at the altitude of 3566 meters, Har Ki Dun is an enchanting place in the Garhwal region and encircled by dazzling and captivating Himalayan peaks and deep forests. Trekking routes-

Taluka-osla: This is a 13 km long trekking route girded with thick soupy and murky forests of chinars, chestnuts, willows and walnuts. The local village Ghangore with a luring temple in it tantalizes the sight of the trekkers. As the route is flecked with numbers of tea stalls and dhabas so, the expedition turns out to be a gratifying and enjoyable experience for every traveler. Osla-Har Ki Dun: This is a 14 km long walk and takes five to six hours to cover the route. To your great enthusiasm, you will notice yourself to ascend towards the green mountain valley and with disarming and winning springs crossing your way frequently, it is going to be a wonderful affair for you to encounter. The occasional peeping of snowy Mountain peaks like Kalanag, Bandar Punch, Swargarohini etc. also affixes more color and sharpness to the whole interest.

How to Reach

  • Jolly grant airport is the nearest airport from which numerous flights for domestic as well as international destinations are obtainable. Flights from Delhi airport is quite frequent as the distance is just 260.6 km.
  • For railways, you have got to get down in Dehradun Rail station which is the closest station to the valley. On reaching there you can easily embark on taxis or choose any option from thousands boarding vehicles available there. The distance from Howrah, Mumbai and Delhi rail station is 1553.3, 1687.8 and 237.5 respectively.
  • Sankari, the picturesque village town which is the starting point for every trek, is well adjoined by roadways with Mussoorie, Dehradun and Uttarkashi at a distance 180, 190 and 170 kms respectively. If you are quite savvy with bus riding then regular bus services are also there from Dehradun and Uttarkashi up to Sankari.

 
Surrounding Attractions

The entrancing and spellbinding mountain valley is itself a great attraction for numerous tourists, as the valley is full of forests with different kinds of animals and birds habitation and also with attractive wild flowers that you can never see a glimpse of in the plain land. Apart from the alluring jungles and springs, there are also other magnetisms that the trekkers are attracted to.

Jaundhar glacier: it is located around 5 km north from Har Ki Dun valley. If you are quite skilled with some mountaineering skills then this spot is going to be a living heaven to you!

Har Ki Dun Falls: This falls within Govind Posu Vihar also attracts the travelers and delegates delightful and appealing sceneries.

Swargarohini Peak: This snow laded peak in the valley has been the main attraction for the trekkers as well as the locals also. This peak with the golden glints of sun rays in the morning says of the true beauty of nature and the bewitched visitors remain totally spellbound with the irresistible comeliness.

Ruinsara Lake: It is a clear water lake at the mountain foot of Kalnag and is contemplated to be real holy and blessed by the inhabitants here.
