  • Basic first aid like antiseptic liquid, cotton, joint pain creams, and paracetamols and digestion medicines should be taken.
  • Snacks and water is a must because there can be no opportunities for any meal breaks while skiing is going on
  • Ski boots should be worn because these boots are very strong and will not get damaged.
  • People with cardiovascular or respiratory problems should not try out river skiing
  • Pregnant women and individuals below 10 years should not take part in skiing.

Uttarakhand is a state with the grandeurs of natural beauty and panoramic views. Each and every place in this state attracts tourists and thus Uttarakhand’s tourism industry is pretty lucrative. The ski facility is provided only in Auli in this state. It’s a beautiful place with easy slopes which even the ski beginners can enjoy. Auli is actually a grassland which is called as a Bugyal locally. The skiing slopes in Auli are as vast as 2900 m to 3050 m. The total ski distance available for the tourists is 3 km. The most interesting part about the Auli skiing adventure is the cable car that takes the tourists from Joshinath to the skiing site in Auli. It’s a total 4 km cable car journey elevating to a height of 3016.03 meters from Joshinath.


  • Ski Gear Guides: These are ski guiding manuals used for buying the ski equipments. The purpose is to make the purchasers buy the right thing at right prices.
  • Ski boots: These ski boots are specially designed so that they fit comfortable on the skis. These boots are tall in height and covers the leg till knee level mostly. Thus the fitting is tight and comfortable
  • Skis: Skiing is not possible without skis. There are different sizes of skis available and one must choose according to the age and health factors.
  • Ski clothing: The ski clothing involves lots of warm clothes which are water proof as well such as ski jackets. The weight of the clothing should not be very heavy because too heavy clothes can hinder the ski motion.
  • Helmets: Helmets are a must in skiing because there are high chances of falling down forcefully on the snows. Thus with the helmets on, one can be assured about saving the skull from injuries.
  • Sunglasses: Specialized sunglasses for ski purpose are available. These are important so that no snow or dust particle can enter the eyes because while skiing any particle might stike the eyes giving rise to eye problems.

How to Reach

  • Jolly Grant Airport in the state capital Dehradun is the only airport in the state. Limited flights are connecting Nainital though. Dehradun is touched by all the major public and private airlines of the country. International travellers can take their journey through New Delhi airport or via Mumbai to Dehradun.
  • The state has railway stations connecting the place with al over India. Dehradun, Kathgodam and Haridwar are three stations. They are connected with national capital New Delhi and other metro cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and etc. railway service is suspended in these three stations due to the treacherous and hilly areas of this state.
  • The roads of the state are the heartline of this state. The mesh of roads are connecting all the parts of the Uttarakhand with other places of India including New Delhi. Regular bus services are plying the tourists in their private, deluxe and state run mode.

Surrounding Attractions

As Auli is located at the foothills of the Himalayan Range, so the landscape here is spectacular and thus it pulls in thousands of tourists every year. So if you are in Auli for the ski then definitely you should not miss the other outstanding sightseeing here.

  • The Vishnu Prayag: This is a junction of the Dauli Ganga River and River Alakananda. It is well known as the Vishnu Prayag and considered as one of the holiest places of the Hindus. People visit here for pilgrimage.
  • Holy temples in Joshinath: Joshinath is located at a distance of only 13 km from Auli. It is mainly a pilgrimage destination and every year people crowd in here for the worship of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu here.  The Narasimha Temple and the Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva are the major holy attractions in Joshinath.
  • Badrinath: This is one of the Char Dhams of the Hindus and is a place purely for pilgrimage. It is located 56 km away from Auli.
  • Gurso Bugyal: This is a view point of lush green grasslands in Auli which looks like a a carpet of green velvets. It is surrounded by conifers and overall it creates a scenery just like the paintings we put up in the drawing rooms.
  • The artificial Lake in Auli: This is one of the largest manmade lakes in world. It is built by the Government to create artificial snow to add to the skiing adventure.
