Travel Tips

Hot air ballooning is not safe for everyone. Any pregnant women and high blood pressure humans must avoid the ride in the air by hot-air. This sport requires a person to stand for hours. So prepare yourself before setting for the journey. Sunglasses are the important part of this adventurous sport. Because this is organised during the day and sun shines can reflect in your eyes heavily. Keep aside 4 hours for the trip aside excluding the activity.

  • There are no prior medical fitness is mandatory for the flight. Though not everyone is fit for the ride in hot air balloons.  Pregnant women and individuals with high blood pressure must avoid the ride.
  • Avoid ballooning on a turbulent day. Choose winter days for the trip.
  • The flight is organised during the month of September to March. The area stays too hot during the summer time. The temperature is unbearable at that time.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. If possible carry a moisturiser. The area is very dry and cool all year around during the morning time.
  • Young children tends to get tired easily. So, think before you take your little children. Children under the age 5 should not take this journey.
  • Always keep all your body parts inside the basket during the flight.
  • Follow the rules of climbing the hot-air balloon.
  • Stay at the right place during the trip. Do not hang around in the basket. It may trip.
  • Follow the words of the pilot in command.
  • Cover your face and all the body parts during the ride to avoid the dry wind.
  • Carry thermals to beat the chilling weather.
  • Ground wind velocity must be under 8 miles per hour. Anything more than that should be avoided.
  • If possible consider booking the morning flights. Evening flights get cancelled most of the time due to low light.

It is best to carry bottled water, comfortable clothes, moisturiser, hat and sunglasses during the trip. Best time to visit Zanskar is June to August.

  • Nearest airport from Zanskar is Leh which is 84 km away. Major international airport is present in New Delhi. Domestic and International carriers are available on daily basis.
  • Due to the high altitude terrain and rough soil, Zanskar has no railway services.nearest railway stations are at Madhopur, Punjab and Kathua, Jammu Kashmir. They are 186 km and 188 km away.
  • There are public and private transportation facilities via road is available from all major north Indian cities. Ambala to Zanskar buses are available on regular basis.

The confluence of Zanskar River and Indus River offers great sight to the visitors also. There is a frozen water fall around the region.
