Travel Tips

  • Get proper vaccination done before going for a camping trip. This is because when you are out in the adventure zone, you might be attacked by unwanted diseases but if the vaccinations are done well, you will be out of danger. Some common vaccines are tetanus, Hepatitis, pertussis, meningitis and so on.
  • Take healthy and fresh foods along with you in air tight boxes. Do not east spicy food because you may get digestive problems.
  • Always stay in a group while you are on a camp and trek. Especially in case of kids, you should never leave them alone in the camping site.
  • Protect yourself from insects by using insect repellents. Use both the spraying type of repellants and the cream type that is to be applied on your body.
  • Carry enough of clothing materials and blankets so that you can stay away from getting fevers.
  • It happens very often that people get water borne diseases while being in a camp. Thus you must carry mineral water with you in adequate quantities to stay safe.

Different from the usual camping locations which are placed in mountainous areas covered with lush green vegetations, the desert camps of Jaisalmer are really enthralling. The beauty of unending sands all around has a lot to offer as far as adventures are concerned. The changing colours of the sand with the different hues of the sun are something that you can enjoy only in the camping event of Jaisalmer. From September to March is the ideal time for the camping activity. The Sam Dunes area in Jaisalmer is the main spot for the camps. Within an area of 3 km from the Sam Sand Dunes, you can comfortably install the tents for your camp. There are several tour companies that arrange such camps and provide all kinds of amenities and luxuries. From the camp site you can go for camel safaris which are the main attractions of the camp.

Places to Stay

When you are on a camping activity in Jaisalmer, it is expected that you make your staying arrangements in tent hotels rather than the usual hotels. There are several categories of tent hotels available in Jaisalmer.

How to Reach

  • As the Jaisalmer airport is only meant for the military chartered flights, so it cannot be used by the general travelers. So the Jodhpur airport is the nearest airport to Jaisalmer. From the airport, there are plenty of cabs available to take you to Jaisalmer.
  • The Jaisalmer Railway station is connected to all major cities of India via express trains. From the station, the camping site is pretty nearby and you can avail taxis to the spot.
  • The roadways are very well knit around Jaisalmer. From Delhi it takes around 17 to 18 hours to reach Jaisalmer including halts. If you travel by private vehicles, then it is suggested to make a night stay in Ajmer or Jaipur and continue the next day to Jaisalmer.

Surrounding Attractions
  • Jaisalmer Fort: This is one of the major attractions in Jaisalmer. It’s a splendid histotical monument built by Raja Jaisal in 1156. It has spectacular works of architecture.
  • Nathmalji –ki-Haveli: This is another historical place to see in Jaisalmer. It has a huge structure of two elephants made of yellow stone.
  • Gadi Sagar Lake: It is located in the south of Jaisalmer. It’s  a beautiful rainwater fed lake and has a pristine surrounding of the silent deserts.
  • Tazia Tower: This is a huge 5 storeyed tower in Jaisalmer bearing the exhibits of the ancient architectures. It was built by Muslim artisans in the ancient rules of Jaisalmer.
  • Deoki Niwas Palace: This is one of the palaces in Jaisalmer which has now been turned to a deluxe hotel. However, the architecture of this building is really appreciable.
  • Jain Temple: This temple is located within the compounds of the Jaisalmer Fort and was builr in the 12 century. It has been constructed keeping a similarity with the Dilwara Temples. It has the idols of Sambhavanathji and Rikhabdevji.
  • Desert national Park: This is a beautiful Wild Life Sanctuary in Jaisalmer. It has several animal resources such as chinkaras, black bucks, wolves, desert cats and hares.
