Brief

This is the oldest National Park which was established in the year 1936. This was previously called Hailey National Park, which was made to preserve Tigers.This Park is named after Jim Corbett. This is located in Ramnagar, in the Nainital District, Uttarakhand. He lived in Nainital for many years. There are four way entrance to the National Park. This is located in the Lesser Himalayas in the North and Shivaliks in the South. Prior to British rule no attention was paid to the national park.The entrances are namely Durga Devi, Dhikala, Jhirna and Bijrani. There are various accommodation in and around the gate. The place has quite a lot things to offer. This place has an inquisitiveness associated with it. Accommodations are also made inside the jungle with prior permission. But there is no electricity there. Bon-fires or any act of fire is prohibited. Outside food are not allowed. Food are purely vegetarian derived at the Government canteen. The best way of exploring the forest is the Elephant Safari. The noise of the jeep and the lights also disturbs the animals. Therefore elephants are the best option for going on the crest. They take you to the periphery of the jungle. A guide must always accompany the party at the jungle. The elephant safari is available for the whole day. After taking to the interiors of the jungle a hot breakfast is served, English speaking guides are available. The dawn safari is exciting. Followed by a breakfast is the afternoon safari. Attempts of visiting wildlife are made. Generally two visits are done daily. One starts at the morning 6 a.m. and continues for two hours. The next starts at 4p.m and ends at 6 p.m. This is an eco-tourism destination. The park includes a total area of 520.8 km2. Jeep safaris, treks and Elephant Safaris. This covers a large area and therefore exploring this require a lot of time. The best time to visit the Park is Mid-November to Mid-June. There are crucial range of Jhirna, Kotirau and Dhara.

 
Travel Tips

As this is a jungle safari hence use of scents are strongly rejected. If there are children in the party it must be made sure that they do not make noise. No food should be offered to the animals. Brightly coloured Dresses must be avoided. All the above mentioned things are disturbing to the animals. If any animals are found then they must not be teased. Going near animas may prove dangerous. You must abide by the rules and words of the Guard who are along with you.Elephant safari must be booked from the range office one day of the ride. The bookings are done at respective range offices. Since the horns of the jeeps and the light and noise disturb animals’ elephant are the best option to go on a jungle safari. There are various kinds of animal found here like the languor and Rhesus Monkey, Asiatic Elephant, Wild Boar, Jackal, Porcupine and Civets. There are more animals to be found. The rare among them are the Royal Bengal Tiger, Sloth bear, Leopards, Hog Deer and many other variety of wild and lesser cats.

Equipments

A camera can be carried by paying for it on the other hand an umbrella to protect oneself from the burning rays of the sun. No other requirements are there. In case of a camp planning food and water must be kept. A Guard must be booked and enough equipment for camping must be kept along. There are various don’ts like the following. How to Reach

  • Patnagar is the nearest airport of the Jim Corbett national park. This is 50 km away from the destination and a cab can be hired for around INR 100 to reach the place of accommodation.
  • There are various railway station nearby the destination. The railway stations are Ramnagar, Moradabad and New Delhi at a distance of 36, 104 and 269 respectively. Cabs can be taken from here to the destination. Ranikhet express also brings you to Ranikhet that is near the destination.
  • All the metropolitan cities are connected with the destination. Private cars and public buses can be availed. Deluxe and semi-deluxe buses are available.

  • Corbett Wildlife Museum- This is an important place which protects the artefacts and important things. The other important features are Crocodile pool, Getheryo Library and Garjia Temple.
