Thirumullavaram is one of the popular tourist destinations in Kerala owing to the presence of a beautiful beach. Therefore, when one talks about the place, they are immediately reminded of the long stretch of palm fringed silvery sands – an alluring proposition to tourists who want a relaxing getaway. It has now become a highly popular beach destination in Kerala. The beach is situated around 6 kms north of Kollam.

Most of the tourists who visit Thirumullavaram are immediately drawn to the beach – a great place to go for a morning jog. One can also catch a glimpse of fishermen gliding going out to sea in their catamarans and country boats.

Ensure that you haggle well when it comes to hiring an auto rickshaw or taxi. The beach is quite shallow near the shores which then makes swimming a lot safer especially for tourists who do are not that adept at swimming. The best time to visit this place is from December to March.

Things to do

A visit to the main beach should be one of the first few things a tourist should do when they arrive here. Apart from the beach, other attractions in the area include the massive rock that projects from the sea, and is located around 2 kms from the shore. The name of this famous rock is Njayarazhcha Para; however, it is more popularly known as the ‘Sunday Rock’. The rock is visible from the shore during low tide.


The Mahavishnu Temple is also a popular tourist and pilgrimage spot in the region. It is considered to be among the oldest temples in Kollam. The legend that surrounds this temple is in regards to the fact that it was blessed by Lord Parashurama, the mythological creator of Kerala.

Getting Around

There are buses which function to and from the town. Also, auto rickshaws and cars can be hired. However, around the beach area, one would enjoy taking a walk while exploring some the region’s interesting bits.
