Sattal or more commonly referred to as Sat Tal (which is Hindi for "seven lakes") isis a famous interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes located in the Lower Himalayan Range near the town of Bhimtal in UttarakhandIndia.  During the British rule in India, the area was known for having a tea plantation, one among four in the Kumaon area.

The lake is situated at an altitude of 1370 metres in the Mehragaon valley. The lake is surrounded by dense forests comprising of oak and pine trees, Sattal is widely regarded as among the unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes in the country. The lake is home to some rare migratory birds.

 
Travel Tips

The best time to visit Sattal is between the summer months from March to May. The weather is perfect for trekking as well as other adventure sports.

  • The nearest airport would have to be Sattalis Pantnagar airport which is around 61 kms away.
  • The nearest railhead is Sattalis Kathgodam which is located around 33 kms away. There are two runs that run daily from Delhi to Sattal.
  • Sattal is well-connected by motorable roads which connect major cities and towns to Uttarakhand.
