Neendakara is among the most popular villages in Kollam district and is located around 9 km north of Kollam city, KeralaIndia. It is widely known as Kollam’s intermediate fishing port. The village is situated 30 km north of Paravur.

The name Neendakara literally means “a long bank” in Malayalam. It is believed that when Portuguese traders settled in Kollam in the early 16th century, their ships would pass through the Neenadakara bar, which is now the site of the Neendakara Bridge, part of National Highway 47, connecting the  village to Sakthikulangara across Ashtamudi Lake. The headquarters of the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Community project was located in Neendakara until 1961. The site has now been handed over to the Government of Kerala.
