Railing across the Kochi lake which merges into the Arabian Sea towards the west, is how one locates the Marine Drive in Kochi, Kerala. Beginning from the High Court junction, the 1.75 km long stretch, extends till Rajendra Maidan, housing many cafes, shopping hoards and recreational centres.

Marine Dive is a picturesque promenade in the city of Kochi, Kerala, It is built facing the backwaters and is a popular hangout for the local populace. Ironic to its name, no vehicles are allowed on the walkway. Marine Drive is also an economically thriving part of the city of Kochi.

While you may picture a regular activity of yoga groups and fitness devotees flooding the drive for some beach body indulgence, there is much more to explore. Jointly enveloped by the commercial spaces, Marine Drive has landed many malls and sky-touching towers. With international chains like Barista, Cafe Coffee Day and La Pizzeria, the place has surely proved a boon to interest the foodie clans. Just as these cafes and diners attract a section of the crowd, there are quite a lot of shopping spaces for the mass too. Stretching across the Drive on the eastern side of Penta Menaka is the Broadway which accommodates jewellery and fashion stores along with electric appliances for your usage. While tourist who believe more in sightseeing and fun, can ride on the jetties that run parallel to the drive or walk by the two notable bridges’ the Rainbow Bridge’ and ‘the Chinese Fishing Net Bridge’.

Getting Around

The stretch was initially made as a walkway to allow people to enjoy the picturesque view of the place, as one strolls by the drive. For few cycles becomes a perfect option but however we would suggest walking than taking on the wheels.

  • The nearest airport is the Kochi International Airport. There are a number of flights which operate from here to other major cities in India.

  • The bay view stretch of Marine Drive towards the south west of the country in Kochi, Kerala can be reached by road from any of the long distant stations crossing over the bridges which connect it to the city. While a distance of 3 Km from Ernakulam railway station is easier for the domestic tourists, a 29 km drive from the Kochi International airport can be a bit of a struggle for a jetlagged guest of the city.
