Kedartal, also popularly known as Shiva's lake is a Garhwal region in India. The lake is fed by snowfall over Meru (6,672m), Kedar Ganga, which is widely considered to be Shiva's contribution to Bhagirathi. Kedartal is also a famous trekking destination and offers some fantastic views for adventure lovers who want to escape for a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Kedartal is a glacial lake situated at an altitude 4750 metres in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas in India. The lake is feb by the snowfall over Talay Sagar, Meru, Bhigrupanh and other surrounding peaks and is the source of Kedar Ganga.

Garhwal and Hindi ar spoken languages in this region.

 

 
Travel Tips

The best time to visit here is during the summer months from March to May. Tourists are advised not to travel here during the monsoon season.

Things to do

The 17 km trek which is usually completed in three days is the best thing to do in the area. The various camping points include Bhoj Kharak, Kedar Kharak and then Kedartal. Camping here is quite exhilarating owing the picturesque location.

The best way to get around in the area is to undertake a trek which is both stimulating and adventurous.

Also, there are a number of buses, taxis and private cars which are available for tourists.

  • Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport, located at a distance of 91 kms.
  • The nearest railway station is located in Rishikesh. It is well connected to other destinations in the state
  • It is well-connected by motorable roads with buses and taxis available.It is a 17 km trek which is usually completed in three days. The various camping points include Bhoj Kharak, Kedar Kharak and then Kedartal.

Gangotri Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Ganga in the 18th century is a famous pilgrimage spot.
