Majorda is among the famous villages in Salcete, Goa and is situated in the South-West part of Goa. The highlight of the place would have to be its famous beach, Marjoda beach which is visited by hundreds of tourists throughout the year. The Majorda melons are also famous in the area, the reason behind their popularity lies in the fact that the carcass of a cow is usually dumped into the well and then that water is used for irrigation purposes.

The Mae de Deus church is unarguably the most important and visited monument in the area. It elicits an old-world charm which is undeniably special. The Majorda railway station has also been in existence for quite a few years now and provided a link to other parts of Goa. Majorda is a historically significant place as it was here that the Jesuit priests discovered toddy, which was basically used to ferment bread.

Legend has it that Lord Rama was kidnapped and brought to Majorda beach when he was a child. It is also believed that he came in search of his wife, Sita to Cabo de Rama.

Travel Tips

Visitors are advised to avoid carrying valuables to the beach as there is a chance that they could get misplaced. It is always good to avoid dark corners or deserted pockets in and around the beach. Light clothing and footwear is recommended as most of the time will be spent relaxing on the beach. When indulging in water sports, one should ensure that they have their safety gear fastened while also consulting the guides present. Parents are advised to keep an eye on their children especially near the beach as the water could get turbulent during certain times in the day.
