Baleswar, or commonly referred to as Balasore, forms part of the administrative headquarters of Balasore district. It is known for the famous Chandipur beach. It is also significant because it is the site of the Indian Ballistic Defense Program’s Integrated Test Range.

Balasore was once an integral part of ancient Kalinga. The district has also been influenced and transferred from the hands of the Danish settlers in India because the trading port was adjudged to be too shallow. However, it was considered a significant shipping port during the early British rule in India.

It is also a place of scenic beauty and among the famous tourist destinations in Orissa. It is also home to some historical monuments like certain temples in and around the area. There are quite a few hill ranges as well for tourists that enjoy trekking. The primary occupation of the inhabitants here is agriculture and they cultivate rice, the main staple of the people here. Agriculture also forms a major part of the town’s economy.
