Spread across the terrain of Chhotanagpur Plateau, BadalkholWildlife Sanctuary is one of the most prominent destinations for nature lovers and animal enthusiasts. The wildlife sanctuary at Badalkhol is famous for the different varieties of animals that can be found here. Thus, if you are planning to trip to Badalkhol, you can rest assured that you will have plenty of animal sightings to keep you occupied. If you visit the sanctuary just after the monsoon season, you will be treated to the sight of large number of animals flocking to get a drink from one of the waterholes in the park. The animals that you can expect to see during your trip here are Chausingha, Nilgai, Sambhar, wild boar, jackal sloth bear, and hyena. Chinkara, deer, gazelle and the spotted deer are amongst the other animals that you can spot roaming around in the forest. Apart from animals, the park also gives sanctuary to different species of birds, both Indian as well as migratory in nature. Peacock, pigeon, quail, fowl, parrot and storkare some of the various types of birds that throng to the forest. The park also hosts several tigers and leopards. However, these are quite difficult to spot as the number has dwindles in recent years.

You can get around Badalkhol quite easily. The place is not very crowded and as such the perfect way to explore Badalkhol is to take long walks down the roads. There are public transports as well. Buses, both government and private, ply at regular intervals. You can also rent cabs in case you want to go to the other towns in the vicinity.

How to Reach

  • The nearest airport is at Raipur, in case you want to take a plane. Regular flights from Delhi, Lucknow and other important cities in the country leave for Raipur. From the airport, you can cover the remaining part of the journey either by renting a car, or taking a cab from outside the station. There are direct buses that leave for Jashpur from the airport.
  • If you are planning to book your seat in a train, you should get off at Raigarh, the nearest important railway station. The station is connected to the other major stations in Chattishgarh. You can get details of the train as well as do the booking through sites like,, and The train fare should be between Rs.1500 and Rs.3000 if you are coming from another state. Train journey within the state will cost you around Rs.300.
  • Badalkhol can be reached from the surrounding places like Bhilai, Raipur, Bastarby bus or by car. There are also a number of buses that leave for Jashpur at regular intervals. The buses are state run as well as private. Fare depends on the type of bus you chose to board.
