The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering in Gulmarg is another well-established institution which has quite a few courses on skiing, which vary according to levels of expertise and the amount of time you want to spend on this sport. They have 15-day ski courses and they provide all the equipment required for the course. This course happens all year round and it would be advisable to write ahead of time and apply for the course if you plan on going to Gulmarg during peak tourist season.

How to Reach

  • The airport at Srinagar is the closest to Gulmarg. The distance between the two is 56 kilometers and the rest of the journey needs to be covered by road. The airport at Srinagar is 95 kilometers away. There are taxis and buses to cover the rest of the journey.
  • Jammu Railway Station is the closest to Gulmarg. Taxis at the station can take you to the small town easily, and are available in abundance. Jammu Railway station is 255 kilometers from Pahalgam. Buses and taxis ply to the town from here onwards.
  • NH 1A is located close to Gulmarg, which leads to the town being well connected to the rest of the state. Cars ply Delhi to Srinagar, where you can get off and take a bus or a taxi to Gulmarg. Pahalgam is well connected to the whole of Jammu and Kashmir by road. You can take a bus to Srinagar from Delhi, and then take another means of transport to Pahalgam for some quality skiing time.
