Elliot beach, also known as 'Bessei' is located towards the south of Marina beach. The beach noted for its tranquility and clean surrounding is popular among the locals for relaxing and soaking in the sun. Sitting along the beach, one can enjoy the beautiful nature around and the gaze at the endless sky merging and becoming one with the sea. The beach is popular among college going crowd as well and one can see youngsters playing and making castles in the sand.

The Marina Beach holds almost a hundred stall which sell handicraft items made from sea shells.

The local craftsmen carve out ornaments and various souvenirs from the sea objects found in abundance at the beach.

Elliot Beach is a great place to hang out since it provides its visitors with a range of multi-cuisines together with an array of restaurants and fast food centres. You can dig in to the scrumptious South Indian snacks and sit on the beach with a plateful of savories. Ponnuswamy restaurant, Karaikudi restaurant, Lee's Chinese restaurant and the New Shangri La are some of the famous restaurants at the beach.

At the southern end of the beach, is the famous Velankanni Church which was built in the honour of the Lady of Health, also famous as Madonna of Velankanni. It is also believed by the followers that the Lady of Health holds miraculous powers.

Another site of attraction is the Ashtalakshmi Temple, located on the southern end of the beach. It is dedicated to the eight manifestations of the Goddess Mahalakshmi, also known as the Deity of Wealth and Peace. Besides this, there are temples of TumbikaiAazhwar (Ganesha), Guruvaayurappan, Chakrathaazhwar&Narasimhar (on either side of the same idol), Aanjaneyar&Dhanvantri. Apart from this, there is a stone monument sited on the Elliot's Beach constructed as a mark of honour to a Danish sailor, Karl Schmidt who died at the time of saving a man from drowning.

  • Chennai is well connected to the world and most international airlines have flights to Chennai's Anna International Airport. Surrounding Attractions

Located 0.9 Kms from Elliot beach is Ratnagirishwarar Temple. This famous temple is located in Besant Nagar. The main deity is Ratnagirishwar, means God of Retnagiri (Lord Shiva). Growing flow of devotees is a main characteristic of this temple. The MahaKumbabhishekam is the main attraction here.

Rukmini Devi Museum is another tourist attraction just 1 Km away from the beach.The museum houses a variety of praise worthy art objects gathered by Rukmini Devi from different parts of the world. It includes paintings, sculptures, art objects and the sarees worn by Rukmini Devi among some other valuable collections.

MGM Dizzee World is an amusement park located just 1.3 Kms away from the Elliot beach. The park has log flume, giant wheel, spider spin, roller coaster, the funny mountain, dashing cars, super trooper, a water world and it also hosts special seasonal shows.
