Vansda National Park

Located near the city of Vansda in Navasari district, in the state of Gujarat, Vansda National Park is fast becoming one of the prime tourist locations in the state. The reserved forest in one of the major instances of man trying to preserve the beauty of nature along with the flora and fauna which form the heart of this creation. Vansda National Park is quite close to the city of Vansda, the distance between them being only 80 km. Despite this nearness o human habitation, the park plays host to a number of wild animals, many of which have been declared as belonging to the species which are fast nearing extinction.

The main attraction of the national forest at Vansda is the wide variety of fauna that inhabits the 30 sq. km area of the forest. The endangered great Indian squirrel can be seen here. Leopard, jungle cat, hyena, common palm civet, chital, chausinga, mongoose, macaque, small Indian civet, rhesus macaque, hanuman langur, barking deer, wild boar, flying squirrel, Indian flying fox, Indian porcupine, pangolin, rusty-spotted cats are amongst the animals that can be seen by the tourists visiting the forest. The forest is also a great destination for bird-watchers as the trees here give shelter to a variety of birds, both local ones as well as migratory birds that fly from almost halfway across the world to find shelter during the cold winters. Some of the commonly seen birds are yellow back sunbird, racket-tailed drongo, pompadour pigeon, grey hornbill, paradise flycatcher, thrushes, jungle babbler, leaf birds, and peafowl. The endangered species- forest spotted owlet- also finds shelter here. In all, there are over 150 species of birds in the confines of the forest. However, it is not only the multifarious wildlife that makes Mrugavani National Park so interesting. The trees found here are also a part of its attraction. A large variety of flowering plants can be seen as one walks through the forest area. Valuable trees are also quite a few in number. Bamboo, Teak, and a number of other valuable trees can be found here.

The city of Vansda is quite well developed and getting around is fairly easy. The public transport system is quite good. There are plenty of buses. You can also move about by renting a car.   • The nearest important railway station is at Waghai. The rail station at Waghai is connected to the station in Ahmedabad, Surat and the other stations across the state.
